#529

$225.00

This piece is unusual for me. This is a stunning stone and once I cut it into slabs (slices), I knew I had to do something with them. Bookmatching slices seemed an obvious choice, but the shape didn’t really lend itself to becoming a clock. Bookmatching is a technique used in woodworking and stonework where two or more pieces are cut from the same, in this case, stone and arranged to create a symmetrical, mirror-like pattern.  Imagine a stone being cut in half and then opened like a book.

Having grappled with this on another piece, I quickly came to the decision to make this into wall art. Bookmatched, this brown/grey stone has vivid lighter brown/orange veins with the largest vein traveling horizontally across with a crystal vein at its center. Attached at the center with dark grey epoxy, it has the rough shape of a butterfly, ending up at 7.25” wide by 6.25” tall.

If you like this piece, check out it’s sister #528. Collect both to make an interesting arrangement!
