This is one of my first experiments in bookmatching. Bookmatching is a technique used in woodworking and stonework where two or more pieces are cut from the same, in this case, stone and arranged to create a symmetrical, mirror-like pattern. Imagine a stone being cut in half and then opened like a book. This live edge light yellow stone with dark red and black speckling ends up in the shape of a symbolic heart.
Centered on this piece is a baren Bonsai tree (no leaves), with a blue/green patina, creating a symmetrical and visually pleasing 8.5” wide by 8” tall work of art.
